Synopsis

During World War II, the arrival of German troops disrupts the peaceful life of a small village in the French Alps. Sébastien, a lonely but resourceful child who spends his days walking in the mountains, tames a huge wild dog whom he names Belle and who terrorizes sheep farmers. While the Nazis are harassing the townsfolk to discover who is helping Jews cross the Swiss border, Sébastien searches for his mother.
