Hey kids, here’s a lesson you may learn later in life: Getting a promotion isn’t always a good thing. Sometimes you like your life just as it is. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a slacker, just that responsibility, attention and pressure isn’t for everyone.
It certainly isn’t for Shrek, that big, lovable ogre who wants nothing more than to hang out in his swamp with his friends and his gal Fiona and take it easy.
But Fiona’s a princess, remember. And she and Shrek are now married. So when Fiona’s dad, King Harold, dies in Shrek the Third, Shrek finds out he’s next in line for the throne of Far Far Away.
Becoming King is the last thing Shrek wants, so he and his pals, Donkey and Puss In Boots, set out to find someone else to wear the crown. Maybe it’ll be Fiona’s cousin Artie, who’s a bit of a slacker himself, or maybe it’ll be the villainous Prince Charming. Oooooh, that wouldn’t be very good for the people…and talking animals…and very animate objects of Far Far Away.
And that’s why, while Shrek is off finding a suitable King, Fiona and her friends concentrate all of their efforts on taking Charming down.
