horton hears a who!

Listen up!

An elephant uses his big ears to save a small community in Horton Hears a Who!

Do you ever feel small?

Not just little-kid small, but really, really, really small?

Like so small that you wonder if you’re living on a tiny planet surrounded by enormous beings that are so big you can’t even see them? Okay, maybe that’s going too far.

But that’s actually the case for the tiny Whos of Who-ville, whose entire world is contained on what looks to an elephant named Horton to be a single speck of dust.

You may remember the Whos from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Both that story and this one, Horton Hears a Who!, were written by the same guy, Theodore Geisl, but you probably know him better as Dr. Seuss.

One day Horton — who, like all elephants, has enormous ears — thinks he hears a faint cry for help coming from that bit of dust. It turns out that cry came from the Mayor of Who-ville, who needs Horton’s help to keep the miniscule village safe. The problem is that some of Horton’s neighbours think he’s crazy.

They don’t believe that he can hear the tiny Whos on that speck of dust. So they want to lock him up and destroy the speck.

The only way for the Whos to survive is to save themselves. In order to do that every Who in Who-ville will have to use all of their lung power to cry out at the same time. Maybe that way the skeptics will hear the Whos, believe Horton, and help save Who-ville.

Horton Hears a Who! opens March 30
