DIRT: Coling McRae Off-Road
PC, PS3, Xbox 360
If speeding around a smooth, paved circle 200 times sounds a little boring (sorry NASCAR fans!), DIRT is the game for you. Named for legendary driver McRae, it’s based on rally driving: blazing across the countryside on bumpy dirt tracks dotted with drop-offs and moguls. The 40 real-life vehicles include street and custom cars, light trucks, 4x4s and dune buggies. And rallying is a risky business so your ride will realistically show every scratch, dent and crumpled fender you earn.

Surf’s Up
DS, GBA, GC, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, X360
The animated movie shows the world penguins can surf; now it’s your
turn to dive in. Set at the “Reggie Belafonte Surf Off,” the game
features 10 playable characters from the film — including young Cody,
tough guy Tank, and old Z — each with his own set of skills. To win the
championship you’ll have to learn how to ride a tube and master daring
air tricks in all kinds of waters, from the gentle waves of Shiverpool,
to the explosive coils of the volcano area. Meeting goals unlocks more
challenges, plus you can take on friends in multiplayer mode.

Death Jr. & the Science Fair of Doom
DS
Called DJ by his pals, the teenage son of the Grim Reaper hit the
PSP almost two years ago, and finally Nintendo DS-ers can join in the
ghoulish fun. Even ordinary science fairs can be scary, but our
skull-headed hero has bigger problems than grades when his classmates’
projects go horribly wrong, filling the school with evil creatures. To
take on baddies like the twisted, bunny-like Moloch, you’ll use the
touch screen to unleash slashing scythe combos, solve puzzles and race
through hazard-filled hallways. And you’d better put things right
before DJ’s dad finds out or there’ll be some real trouble.
