Lautner and Stewart get awkward on Oscar night (Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)

This year's Oscars heralded a whole slew of firsts - an expanded Best Picture field, a female Best Director and a statue for Razzie winner and rom-com queen Sandra Bullock. Add in a Kanye West moment, a few unexpected wins and random celebrity sightings and you've got a pretty solid Oscar ceremony. Read on for our thoughts on how the whole night went down.

Best Reaction Shot: George Clooney
From his faux-mad faces during hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin's opening monologue, where they so eloquently pointed out that no one really knew who else was in the Best Actor category other than (eventual winner) Jeff Bridges, to his sly grin when Up in the Air co-star Vera Farmiga called him "Mr. Foxy Fox" when introducing him as a Best Actor nominee, Clooney proved he may have had the most fun of anyone who didn't go home with a statue. Class act all the way. Also, bonus points for the shaggy 'do.

Most awkward presenters: Twilight Teens
The typically press-shy Kristen Stewart could not have looked more uncomfortable, though classy in a black mermaid dress by Monique Lhuillier, standing next to her tuxed-out New Moon co-star Taylor Lautner. Though not as visibly anxious, Lautner still emitted the completely understandable 'I'm-kinda-freaking-out-cause-I'm-17-and-at-the-Oscars' vibe. Their 'banter', to be generous about it, may have been forgettable but the cringeworthiness carried on long after. I get appealing (read: pandering) to the teen vampire crowd as much as the next gal, but this ain't the MTV Movie Awards.

Best Kanye West Moment: Music by Prudence producer Elinor Burkett
When director-producer Roger Ross Williams hit the stage to accept the Oscar for Best Documentary short, it seemed like business as usual until Elinor Burkett, literally rushing the stage and apparently already in mid-sentence, had us wondering if someone should call security. Her unintelligible speech and general frazzled demeanor was reportedly a reaction to a difference of opinion that resulted in a now-settled lawsuit between herself and Williams and since the two are no longer talking, she wasn't aware of who was going to accept the award and had no qualms about sharing her feelings. At the very least, it gave us a certifiably unscripted moment in an otherwise by-the-books ceremony.

Best Impression of a Retiree: Sarah Jessica Parker
Former fashion muse and Manolo Blahnik pusher SJP shocked everyone with her Chanel couture butter-yellow muumuu that said nothing so much as "When's the next game of Canasta?" Seemingly wearing a loaf of challah bread (or perhaps an homage to Gary Oldman's Dracula updo) as a hairstyle, this was a major miss for a woman often revered for her red carpet choices. And that's not even taking into account her too-orange complexion and mega-tired eyes. Let's hope they allow her back into the Florida trailer park from whence she came.

Best Intro: Tie Colin Farrell & Tim Robbins
The reformed Irish bad boy is beyond candid about his addiction-addled past and when introducing his S.W.A.T. co-star Jeremy Renner as a Best Actor nominee, Farrell not only made reference to having a sketchy memory of the details but alluded to a night spent with Renner, while calming the audience by confessing they only spooned.
Tim Robbins had fun ribbing the ever-composed Morgan Freeman, by sharing that while on the set of their beloved 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption, Freeman told him that a friend is someone you can have a coffee with - and then called him Ted instead of Tim. Well-played, Robbins.

Best Baldwin/Martin Zinger: Battle of the Exes
The fearless and funny Steve Martin didn't shy away from directly commenting on the elephant in the room - that would be exes and Best Director Oscar nominees James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow, who were but a stone's throw away from each other during the telecast. Said Martin: "She was so pleased to be nominated with him, she sent him a beautiful gift basket with a timer." (Get it?) Runner-up: Referring to the regal British Best Actress nominee as Damn Helen Mirren, not Dame. Gold, Jerry, gold!

Biggest Surprises: Up in the Air goes home empty-handed/Argentina gets Best Foreign Film
After Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon took home the Palme d'or at the Cannes Film Festival, it easily slid into frontrunner status when it came to Best Foreign Language Film, followed by France's A Prophet. It's fair to say that Argentina's El Secreto de Sus Ojos would have been anything but a safe bet and its eventual win went against most predictions. Likewise, Jason Reitman's critically lauded recession tale seemed a lock on screenplay, if not Best Picture at least early-on, but was edged out by Mark Boal for The Hurt Locker as well as director Kathryn Bigelow, and, in the end, Up in the Air went home without any Oscar gold.

Biggest In Memoriam Snub: Farrah Fawcett
The former Charlie's Angel was nowhere to be seen during the traditional montage that honours those who passed away within the year and there were more than a few shocked/angry tweets calling the Academy out moments after the moving tribute wrapped. Sure, she was predominantly a TV star but no one could deny that Fawcett was an enduring pop culture icon who should have been given the same sendoff her peers were afforded.

Best Random Celebrity Sighting:Tie Macaulay Culkin & Fisher Stevens
These days Mr. Mila Kunis tends to lay pretty low (the last thing I personally remember seeing him in was Saved and that was 2004) but he re-emerged into the spotlight in a pretty major way considering about a million people tuned into the night's proceedings. Culkin was there to pay tribute to the late, great writer-director John Hughes, who cast the blond actor as scamp Kevin McAllister in Home Alone way back in 1990. Come to think of it, most of the Brat Pack actors who made an appearance for the Hughes tribute are of the 'Oh yeah, I remember you!' ilk, but I doubt it's entirely their choice. (Yes, I'm looking at you Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy.) Also, the guy from Short Circuit won an Oscar! Yay?

Most sincere acceptance speech: Tie Jeff Bridges & Sandra Bullock
The fact that Razzie winner Bullock opened her Best Actress speech with the self-deprecating quip "Did I really earn this or did I just wear you all down?" means that at least she doesn't take herself too seriously and seems to have a pretty accurate idea of how the public views her. Add in not one but two references to the kiss her and Meryl Streep shared at the Critics' Choice Awards, and a quivering, on-the-verge-of-tears voice that felt anything but put on, and you've got a lady who gives good speech.
The Dude himself started off by thanking his (now-deceased) parents for introducing him to the "groovy" business that is acting, went on to use the word "man" about a half-dozen times and even threw in "cat" for good measure before thanking his wife of 33 (THIRTY THREE!) years and relaxing into that Cheshire Cat grin he was wearing all night. We abide, and then some.
