Standing out amidst talking toys, aging undercover operatives on motorcycles, Peter Pan Syndrome-afflicted adult males and bitey, emo vampires, one man has dared to make a trippy, heavy, labyrinthine movie in the midst of your summer blockbuster season. And just who is this rogue writer-director who brazenly thinks he's going to lure the denizens from their buttery popcorn, 3D glasses and anthropomorphic animals to watch a movie about dream theft? None other than The Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan.

Besides reinvigorating the superhero genre, Nolan is behind bizarro backwards think-piece Memento and its seriously strange predecessor, Following and proves that fame and recognition hasn't dulled his penchant for the brain-expanding scenarios that first brought him notoriety.

Inception follows erstwhile Scorsese muse Leonardo DiCaprio as he surreptitiously steals valuable secrets from his none-the-wiser sleeping victims and is confronted with an ultimatum: perform a final, all-out heist for a shot at his old life, and one presumes, long lost love, or continue to live as a fugitive on the lamb. Basically, the stakes couldn't be higher, which makes for a nicely tense set-up wherein Nolan will thoroughly mess with our minds. Can't wait!

We've got 37 (!) images from the forthcoming sci-fi thriller that Rolling Stone's film critic Peter Travers called "the mind-blowing movie event of the summer."

Co-starring Michael Caine, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy and Ken Watanabe, it opens July 16.
