Based on the first-look photo alone, we knew that eyes, and blue ones at that, would figure prominently in Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi tale about aliens and the humans they inhabit in The Host and the first eerie teaser trailer confirms it, with luminous azure peepers suggesting an other-worldliness in their owners.
A voice-over by star Saoirse Ronan calmly tells us that the future is a great place, no wars, no hunger and everyone is unfailingly polite and sweet. But there's a sense that something is rotten in the state of Denmark when she casually drops that tidbit that it's not OUR world anymore. Heavy.
Directed by Andrew Niccol (In Time, Gattaca), the science-fiction aspect will likely be pronounced as we follow Melanie Styder (Ronan), whose body may have been invaded by a "soul" known as Wanderer, but she's not giving up without a fight.
