Oscar winner Denzel Washington and Canadian superstar Ryan Reynolds join forces in director Daniel Espinosa's new edge-of-your-seat action-thriller Safe House.
The always dependable Washington plays a rouge CIA agent, who suddenly comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he’s remanded to is set upon by a group of deadly mercenaries, a rookie operative devoid of field experience (Reynolds) is forced to escape with him. Thus kicks off the chase that sees the unlikely allies band together to stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead.

As your trusty, resident movie experts, it only makes sense that we offer our take on who will make the long walk, or short jaunt depending on the seating chart, to the podium come February 26th's Oscar ceremony.
While it isn't even worth debating that Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist is an unstoppable accolade-gathering machine (Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Producer Guild trophies and more among its impressive haul), the acting categories aren't as much of a lock and we're giving members of the Cineplex team - Cineplex Magazine's editor Marni Weisz, dotcom producer Emma Badame and director of film programming Rob Cousins - a chance to predict the outcome of the big night.

Canadian director Brad Peyton went right from family fare Cats and Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore to Hawaii but it wasn't for a vacation. He's behind the camera for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and while it's technically the sequel to the 2008 Brendan Fraser adventure flick Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Peyton took the opportunity to make a movie that had more in common with his favourite old-school capers like Indiana Jones and The Goonies and give the franchise a reboot.
Josh Hutcherson (soon to be a household name thanks to The Hunger Games) returns to the fold but Dwayne Johnson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Michael Caine join in on the fun this time around as the rag-tag bunch uncovers a mythical island.
Cineplex recently had a chance to speak with Peyton at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto and found out why shooting on location was essential and what it's like directing Sir Michael Caine.

Tilda Swinton has always taken risks with her career, her appearance and her personal life. They usually pay off, but few have seemed as daring as her latest role in We Need to Talk About Kevin. As Eva, a travel writer who resents being tied down by her supremely awful little boy who, as a teen, does something truly terrible, Swinton demolishes the sacred concept of maternal love.
Busting taboos is nothing new for the 51-year-old British actor; Swinton has been doing that since her early screen work for the late director Derek Jarman, often devoting herself to years of development on high-art projects such as Orlando, I Am Love and this one, the third feature by Lynne Ramsay (Ratcatcher, Morvern Callar).
Though she remains committed to the cutting edge, Swinton has enjoyed some Hollywood success in recent years, winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Michael Clayton and appearing in such high-profile productions as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Burn After Reading, Vanilla Sky and the Chronicles of Narnia series.
It's hard to believe it's been 13 years since venerable Scottish treasure Ewan McGregor buzzed his hair and grew that weird, wiry rat tail to play a young Obi-Wan Kenobe, wielded lightsabers with present-day action hero Liam Neeson and Darth Maul and Oscar winner Natalie Portman got all dolled up as Queen Amidala for George Lucas' prequel Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.
This first look at the humble beginnings of Anakin Skywalker was, of course, followed by Episode II - Attack of the Clones in 2002 and Episode III - Revenge of the Sith in 2005, where homeboy Hayden Christensen played a big part in the intergalactic fable.
Now, with an added layer of movie magic, Phantom Menace will be hitting a theatre near you in 3D but it's not the only re-release catering to nostalgic viewers, and those too young or disinterested to catch it the first time around.
Find out what other 3D re-releases you can expect in 2012.

From some truly stellar lines to the teasing of some pretty major plot points, this preview's got all the fan angles covered. Read the official synopsis to give you some context then scroll to watch the second trailer - all after the cut!
There's no escaping Channing Tatum.
The 31-year-old actor has half a dozen films scheduled for release in 2012. First out was last month's taut action thriller Haywire from director Steven Soderbergh. It's followed this month by the romantic tearjerker The Vow. In March, Tatum goes back to school as an undercover cop in the big-screen revival of TV's 21 Jump Street. In June, he'll both reprise his role of supersoldier Duke Hauser in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and relive an earlier part of his life in Magic Mike, Soderbergh's tale of a male stripper that's based partially on Tatum's youthful experiences. And then there's the independent high school reunion movie, Ten Year, that Tatum co-produced and co-stars in with, among others, his wife Jenna Dewan.
They met on the set of the 2006 dance hit Step Up, which also marked Tatum's first major splash as a leading man. The gregarious Southerner says he made Haywire for her, and he isn't entirely joking.
