Canadian director Brad Peyton went right from family fare Cats and Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore to Hawaii but it wasn't for a vacation. He's behind the camera for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and while it's technically the sequel to the 2008 Brendan Fraser adventure flick Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Peyton took the opportunity to make a movie that had more in common with his favourite old-school capers like Indiana Jones and The Goonies and give the franchise a reboot.
Josh Hutcherson (soon to be a household name thanks to The Hunger Games) returns to the fold but Dwayne Johnson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Michael Caine join in on the fun this time around as the rag-tag bunch uncovers a mythical island.
Cineplex recently had a chance to speak with Peyton at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto and found out why shooting on location was essential and what it's like directing Sir Michael Caine.
