Well, this is a change. The first two Iron Man films, and oh yeah The Avengers, introduced us to Tony Stark, billionaire playboy philanthropist whose sharp tongue, flashy wardrobe and creative facial hair was matched only by his clever wit and willingness to flirt with death so the darkness of the first full trailer for Iron Man 3 is not what we were expecting.

We see Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) unable to shake the latent threat posed by so many men who want to end his life and take away the one thing that matters - Pepper Potts - as he complains of nightmares in a bit of voice-over that nicely sets up our world-weary anti-hero's current frame of mind.

With Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) taking over for Jon Favreau as director and co-writing the screenplay, Iron Man 3 seems likely to stand alone as the next Marvel adventure and one that's more existential than we've seen on the big screen. Don Cheadle and Gwyneth Paltrow reprise their roles and are joined this time around by Rebecca Hall, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Stephanie Szostak and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, who we hear and see at the end of the trailer bringing Stark's world crumbling down.
