Like James Franco before him, George Clooney even before him and Clint Eastwood way, way before that, the adorable and ambitious Joseph Gordon-Levitt is joining the ranks of actor-writer-directors with news that he will lens a script he wrote and has treated himself to quite the lady love in our girl crush Scarlett Johansson. And why shouldn't he?
If we were in a position to pick and choose who we should be fake falling in love with for the purposes of sharing a story we conceived, you'd bet we'd be asking Ryan Gosling, the Pitts (both Brad AND Michael) and Jake Gyllenhaal to come in for a reading because, hey, it's MY movie and they're also GIFTED actors. (Truth).
And so JGL is taking a break from spearheading his online media collective hitREC.org, and starring in critically acclaimed flicks like 50/50 and Inception, to play a role that he admits isn't one people are likely to see him in, that is, a womanizer. He revealed this new venture "may be the biggest announcement of [his] life" while addressing the hitREC online community via video and written statement.
Gordon-Levitt of course rose to fame as the long-haired teen Tommy in TV's "3rd Rock from the Sun" and went on to star in powerful indies that showed he was willing to take artistic risks (Mysterious Skin, Brick) but the last romance we saw him in was (500) Days of Summer and Don Juan he was not.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the untitled comedy follows his character on "his journey to become less of a d**k" and will begin filming in April. Gordon-Levitt will also be juggling promotion for the four films he's in this year, which include Premium Rush, The Dark Knight Rises, Looper and Lincoln.
