If you could travel back in time to prevent something truly awful from happening, would you? It seems like a no-brainer. Now ask yourself, what if what stood between you and your target, was you? Not as easy anymore.

This is one of the many questions posed in director Rian Johnson's third feature film, Looper, which tells the story of Joe (played by a physically-transformed Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a mob hit man who helps to eliminate "problems" for a crime syndicate in the future by disposing of them the minute they're sent back to the past. Unfortunately for Joe, when your future self is played by Bruce Willis, things tend to get a little sticky in the murder department.

We sat down with It-boy JGL, Looper's writer-director, and beautiful Brit co-star Emily Blunt during the Toronto International Film Festival to find out why Looper is so much more than your run-of-the-mill sci-fi time-travel film.

Looper hits Cineplex theatres September 28.
