January Jones, known to most as the icy cool Betty Draper on AMC's "Mad Men", is set to suit up as the telepathic (and equally restrained) Emma Frost in 20th Century Fox's highly anticipated X-Men Origins: First Class. Though actress Alice Eve had long been touted by inside sources as having the part of Frost wrapped up, it is Emmy-nominated Jones who has officially snapped up the coveted role.
The Matthew Vaughn-helmed action prequel will focus on the friendship between two young mutants: Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) but the supporting cast of characters seem poised to capture our interest along the way. In addition to Jones, we will see Zoe Kravitz (It's Kind of a Funny Story) as Angel, Jason Flemyng (Snatch) as Azazel, Bill Bilner (Son of Rambow) as an even younger Magneto, and Morgan Lily (2012) as a young Raven. These actors join an existing jam-packed supporting cast that already includes Kevin Bacon, Rose Byrne, Edi Gathegi, Nicholas Hoult, Caleb Landry Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, Oliver Platt and Lucas Till.
If you're a fan of the comics (and the previous films) then one of those casting tidbits may have struck you as a bit odd. Variety reports that Kravitz is set to take on the role of Angel who, when we last saw him (yes that's right HIM), had only recently been introduced to the mutant world. So how exactly is Angel involved in the past of these characters and what's with the gender-bending? I guess we'll just have to wait to find out.
X-Men Origins: First Class will hit theatres nationwide on June 3, 2011.
