Well...that's all she wrote, folks! Hollywood's biggest night has come and gone for yet another year. The 84th annual Academy Awards took place last night with Billy Crystal hosting the ceremony for a ninth time and well, everything went pretty much according to plan. There were no real shockers or upsets, no big unscripted moments and no notable wardrobe malfunctions to speak of. There were a few moments that sparked some fun thanks to witty presenters (we're looking at you, Emma Stone, Colin Firth and Robert Downey Jr.) and one severely classy and brassy speech from Best Supporting Actor winner Christopher Plummer, but otherwise this year's big show was more mediocre than spectacular.
But we can't let the even-keeled tone of the night take away from the night's big winners! Martin Scorsese's Hugo, a loving 3D tribute to film history, all but swept the technical awards and tied with silent movie The Artist for five wins each. The Artist, the big frontrunner heading into last night's show, took home many of the nights biggest prizes including best picture, director (Michel Hazanivicius) and actor (Jean Dujardin).
The only other film on the night to pick up multiple awards was Margaret Thatcher biopic, The Iron Lady, with wins for Best Actress (Meryl Streep) and Best Achievement in Make-Up.
