Denzel Washington, FlightDenzel Washington plays the hero in his new movie Flight, now playing in Cineplex theatres. As an airline pilot whose quick-thinking averts disaster during a plane crash, the post-crash spotlight quickly turns on his substance abuse problems and calls his performance history into question.

We turn the spotlight on Washington’s career in our poll this week. Nominated for five Oscars, he’s brought two of the gold statuettes home for Best Supporting Actor in Glory and Best Actor for Training Day. He’s certainly come a long way from his first big screen credit as “Alley Mugger #1” in Death Wish in 1974. They must have seen something special in him to cast him as the lead mugger, right?
