The year was 1976: Robert De Niro faced the mirror in Taxi Driver, Dustin Hoffman was both The Marathon Man and part of All the President’s Men, and the Festival of Festivals or what we now called The Toronto International Film Festival was founded.

1976 was a big year for cinemagoers with a slate of film releases that in the past 37 years have become hallmarks of moviemaking, like the satirical Network and the horror classic The Omen. It was also the year we got on a first name basis with a tortured highschooler named Carrie and boxing behemoth Rocky.

The year also marked to birth of some of today’s most famous faces including Benedict Cumberbatch, Alexander Skarsgard, Ryan Reynolds, Diane Kruger, Reese Witherspooon and Isla Fisher.
