Just when you thought sitting through Hollywood's biggest night was little more than a way to find out what movies you should be watching, a necessity if you don't want to be left out of morning-after chitchat and a chance to ogle celebs dressed in their Sunday bests, we're here to let you know there are things to be learned from the Oscars.

In fact, we picked up on so much that we had to whittle the list down to a Top 10, encompassing interesting tidbits gleaned from the red carpet and the three-hour telecast.

Ryan Seacrest needs a vacation

Listen, I get that he's a busy guy. Hosting "American Idol," and a popular radio show, not to mention the red carpet stuff he does for E!, probably leaves Seacrest a little turned around, maybe not able to read his prepared notes or do the amount of research he'd like. But when he starts asking inane, borderline unanswerable questions like "Were you always so grown up?" to nominee Hailee Steinfeld and "So I guess your daughter can't watch Blue Valentine?" to a stunned Michelle Williams, it might be time to take five and fly to Cabo. And then not interview a Kardashian while you're there.

If you are a pregnant celeb, the press won't be able to focus on anything else

I'm not sure if you heard or not, but Natalie Portman, now Oscar winner for her bravely off-the-hinges performance in Black Swan, is pregnant. Like, she is with child and it's amazing and wonderful and unprecedented and apparently that much different than any woman, famous or not who's been pregnant. Go ahead, ask her about it. She may have also JUST won an Oscar but stick to questions about how motherhood will change her outlook on everything.

James Franco won't be returning as host

His too-cool-for-school approach, or sincere boredom with the whole affair, made the show feel uneven and left Anne Hathaway's blinding smile and the-show-must-go-on moxie to fill in the serious gaps left by Franco's lack of personality. Was it nerves, lack of sleep, too much homework? Either way, capital-D disappointing and the Academy is likely kicking itself for choosing the cool new thing over dependable crowd-pleasers.

It IS possible for Javier Bardem not to look sexy

For a man who exudes a certain omnipresent charm and easy sexuality, Javier Bardem does his thing in jeans or a suit and always looks so sure of who he is and never lets the clothes wear him. Until now. For some bizarre reason, he and Josh Brolin came out as presenters clad in too-small white tuxedo jackets that made them look like they were given someone else' dress-up clothes on the way to their cousin's bar mitzvah. I don't know if the choice of garb was meant to allude to some inside joke but it didn't suit either of them and made Javier, somehow, look like a dork. Painful.

Anne Hathaway - probable future Tony winner

Last year's Oscar proved that Hathaway could carry a tune but this year she went all Broadway on us, calling out Hugh Jackman in song for apparently opting out of their solo, and the results were spirited and only mildly grating.

Colin Firth, though British, is actually pretty funny

After winning the Best Actor trophy like the world figured, Firthy hit the podium and offered this dry quip: "I have a feeling my career just peaked." As he warned us of his "stirrings in the upper abdominal area" that were threatening to turn themselves into dance moves using language in such a way that only the Brits can, he elicted his share of laughs and even cracked a smile himself. Good show, old boy.

Gwyneth Paltrow should stick to acting

GOOP, time for some tough love: You're already an Oscar winner, mega babe, yummy mummy, friend of foodies and married to Coldplay's Chris Martin. I can understand the desire to challenge yourself but leave the singing to your falsetto-voiced hubby and no more forays into country. Please.

RDJ continues his secret "I Should Host Everything" campaign

Begrudgingly sharing the spotlight with Jude Law, after all their sequel isn't going to promote itself, RDJ continues to positively own any stage he's invited to walk on, not shying away from his drug addict past and happy to trade barbs with tongue planted firmly in cheek. When is he going to host something already?

Billy Crystal's still got it

I'm sure Beliebers were all "Who's great-uncle is up there talking?" but Billy Crystal did the most with his short time onstage, proving age hasn't dulled his comedic chops or timing and launching a "Draft Billy Crystal" online campaign among those who think the 60-something actor-comedian should take the lead next year and host the Academy Awards. The fact that energy levels in the room noticeably spiked when he came onstage proves youth isn't always better.

The Academy can't quit Oprah

I know I could get in trouble for even thinking less-than-positive thoughts about the big O and I know she was nominated for an Oscar like 100 years ago, but why was Oprah there? Sure, she's this undeniable force in the entertainment world, in terms of wielding unprecedented, unfiltered power of suggestion amongst but not limited to women of a certain age, but when she comes on stage and I half-expect her to start giving away cars (Look under you SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEATS!), it means she's veering into caricature territory. I guess no one wants to say No to Oprah.
