Though host Jason Sudeikis kicked off the 2011 installment of the teen-friendly, shameless-project-plugging MTV Movie Awards with a winking nod to The Hangover Part II, elevated by cameos from Eva Mendes, Justin Bartha, clips of Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman ferociously making out in Black Swan and a surprisingly clothed Taylor Lautner, the night inevitably belonged to the undead masses populating the vampire flick The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, who led the parade of awkward that was kicked off by Robert Pattinson's acceptance speech for Best Male Performance.

Kristen Stewart, of course, did her part to continue the cringe-worthy speeches, acting as apologetic and uncomfortable as we've come to expect, and was even bested by a kid who managed to deliver a composed and appropriate thank you for her Best Line from a Movie win.

And though Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake kicked off the night with the most scandalous, sexy pitch for why you should see their upcoming movie Friends with Benefits, it was the perpetually sweaty Pattinson who walked away with the night's OMG moment, a messed up joke about Reese Witherspoon that ended with an F-bomb and a full-on lip lock with Lautner that probably made good on someone's vamp-on-werewolf fan fiction.

Besides the opportunity to award someone who's all of 36 the equivalent of a lifetime achievement honour, the MTV Movie Awards proved to be the ideal venue to premiere new footage from fan favourites like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 as well as J.J. Abrams' new sci-fi epic Super 8, all of which were met with exuberant screams from the in-house audience and likely just as much excitement from fans watching at home.

Harry Potter's Emma Watson, looking glam in a sparkly short-sleeved gown, was on-hand to introduce the footage from the franchise's final bow and gave probably the best reaction shots when she lost in all of the categories in which she was nominated while Emma Stone, who won Best Comedic Performance for Easy A, pulled off an outstanding deadpan face when the host made an off-colour joke at her expense.

Meanwhile, cool-guy Ryan Gosling, who presented with Stone and their Crazy Stupid Love co-star Steve Carell, didn't even try to hide his desire to spend Sunday doing just about anything else and for some reason Ashton Kutcher (looking like a sleazy Jesus...Slesus?) presented with hip-hop's reigning weirdo provocatrice Nicki Minaj.

Sudeikis, who made a surprising reference to "becoming a father soon" amidst rumours he's the one who got January Jones pregnant, did a commendable job as host, though his Schwarzenegger jokes fell flat and his attempts at song parody were mostly silly. And Jim Carrey needs to be stopped. Now.

Can't we just get Justin Timberlake to host already?
