Winner of The Toronto International Film Festival 2014 award for Best Canadian First Feature, this film is a unique mash-up of an Elvis movie with a 1950s monster movie but with a sharp modern sensibility. Through song, dance and stylish cinematography we are introduced to a small town teenager (Jane Levy) in the 1960s who dreams of becoming a famous singer. Her dreams almost become a reality when her rock star idol (Justin Chatwin) gets stranded in town but with a leak at the nearby chemical plant emitting a strange purple smoke all is not as it seems.
