In 1941, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor has destroyed America's morale. President Franklin D. Roosevelt responds by bombing Tokyo in an effort to raise hope in the U.S. After completing its mission, a unit of the US Air Force is forced to make an emergency landing in China. Its commander Jack Turner barely survives but is rescued by Ying, a local widow who will stop at nothing to hide him from the Japanese, who are occupying her country.
