Hailed as a landmark film that dazzles with deep emotion and exceptional acting, PHILADELPHIA stars Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington as two competing lawyers who join forces to sue a prestigious law firm for AIDS discrimination. And as their unlikely friendship develops, their courage overcomes the prejudice and corruption of their powerful adversaries. In partnership with (RED) and in recognition of World AIDS Day, The Coca-Cola Company is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the iconic movie Philadelphia – a movie that helped to significantly change the narrative around HIV and AIDS – with a featurette highlighting progress made in the fight against HIV/AIDS since the film’s 1993 release. Titled “The Last Mile,” the featurette includes interviews with original Philadelphia cast members Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington and Mary Steenburgen, and screenwriter Ron Nyswaner, who reflect on the making of the film and how it helped shift cultural perceptions about HIV/AIDS. As a long-standing supporter of HIV/AIDS awareness and research – both through the work on the ground in Africa through Project Last Mile as well as its partnership with (RED) – Coca-Cola believes that now is the time to reinforce the need for funds and continued awareness around the disease. People can help by donating to (RED)’s fight against AIDS at, and Coca-Cola will match all donations to up to $2MM. (attribution: The Coca-Cola Company)
