2016 Academy Award Nominee Supercut: And the Oscar goes to...

Tonight, this year’s controversial and unpredictable awards race will come to a close. Chris Rock is hosting the 88th Academy Awards, and it’s bound to be an historic night. We're still placing our bets on the winners.

This may be the year that Leonardo DiCaprio takes home his Best Actor trophy. It’s a long-running joke that the actor has been pining for an Oscar, but if you’ve seen The Revevant, you’d know that his win would be well deserved. This may just be Leo’s last hurrah as an internet meme.

Actress Brie Larson looks to be a sure-fire bet to win Best Actress for Room. She’s incredible in the film, but all of this year’s leading and supporting ladies gave jaw-dropping performances. From Jennifer Lawrence in Joy, to Charlotte Rampling in 45 Years, we’d be happy to hear any of their names called. There’s no doubt, though, that Larson is about to become a household name and movie star, regardless of whether she picks up the trophy tonight or not.

While we do have some insight into the acting races, Best Picture is still very much up for grabs. While many have been predicting Spotlight ever since its festival run at TIFF, The Big Short has gained some surprise momentum after winning the pivotal Producer’s Guild Award. The Revenant also looks like it could take the big prize, at this point expect one of these three films to be called. It’s a strong year for the Best Picture race, and we’re excited for the surprises that the Oscars will definitely have in store.
