Angelina Jolie makes evil look beautiful in first Maleficent image
Though she's known for her humanitarian efforts and has spent more than a decade as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations, Angelina Jolie gives good evil and she's putting her chiseled cheekbones and defiant pout to good use in Disney's Maleficent, which just today announced the start of production in Burbank, CA.
A spin-off from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty, this Robert Stromberg-directed tale plays like an origin story of what made the self-proclaimed Mistress of all Evil turn so, so bad and eventually curse the princess Aurora.
Disney has released a first-look photo of the gorgeous Jolie turned green-eyed monster and her version of Maleficent looks threatening, icy and sports the horned hood that we've come to know from the animated versions.
Maleficent, literally meaning evil and capable of causing harm, also stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), Elle Fanning (Super 8, Somewhere), Sam Riley (On the Road, Control), Juno Temple (Atonement, Dirty Girl) , Miranda Richardson and Lesley Manville and continues the trend of fairy tales becoming live-action flicks a la Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror.
