Five Reasons to see Black Panther
Black Panther is definitely one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, and we're so glad it's finally here! There's been a growing interest in this mysterious superhero since his appearance in Captain America: Civil War, to the point where the film has broken all previous records for advance ticket sales in the U.S. We're happy to say that the excitement is justified - Black Panther is one of the most fun and refreshing superhero movies we've seen.
If you're on the fence about whether you should make time to check out this new standalone superhero film, here are our top five reasons you need to see Black Panther.
1. Better villains
It's no secret that we're already fans of Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, Creed) and Andy Serkis (King Kong, the Lord of the Rings series), but their turns as the bad guys here are truly inspired. Serkis' Ulysses Klaue is clearly having a lot of fun as an agent of chaos, chortling with glee over everything even when he's in danger, making him a lot of fun to watch. Jordan's Eric Killmonger is menacing in his determination to take over Wakanda, but also dead sexy, and his motivations are good even if his methods are evil, making him one of the most three-dimensional Big Bads we've seen in a while.
2. The cast
This movie has an absolutely stacked cast full of notable actors, from rising stars like Daniel Kaluuya and Danai Gurira to bona fide Oscar nominees and winners like Forest Whitaker and Lupita Nyong'o, with everyone in the film bringing their A-game to the story. We're willing to bet that at least once during this movie you'll think to yourself, "hey, where do I know that actor from?"
3. Kickass women
No doubt about it, women kicking ass on screen is becoming a thing. From last year's Wonder Woman to this year's Proud Mary, there's finally no shortage of strong females holding their own against the baddies onscreen, and Black Panther absolutely delivers as well. If watching Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong'o fight it out with a roomful of mercenaries, or seeing Nyong'o, Gurira, and Letitia Wright in battle in the movie's climax is your thing, Black Panther will make you very, very happy.
We're finally getting a look at the legendary Wakanda in this film, and it does not disappoint. The filmmakers have brought to life Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's vision of a true Utopia, a city set amidst the natural wonder and beauty of Africa, with a vibrant culture and people that is decades ahead of the rest of the world technologically, thanks in part to their location atop a massive deposit of the indestructible metal called Vibranium. It's absolutely breathtaking on the big screen!
We'd expect nothing less than nearly non-stop action from a Marvel movie and Black Panther delivers. From suspenseful hand-to-hand and close weapons combat, to epic battle scenes, to car chases, Black Panther has it all. And it's all best seen on the biggest screen possible, so catch this one in IMAX or UltraAVX if you can!
