You may recognize Gina Rodriguez from her angelic role on the hit telenovela-style comedy, but in Miss Bala she challenges everything you know about her. The film, an adaptation of the Mexican hit of the same name, follows Gloria, a makeup artist who travels to Tijuana to help her friend who is a contestant in the Miss Baja beauty pageant. At a local nightclub, the two friends are separated and kidnapped during a mass shooting, and Gloria finds herself at the mercy of a dangerous drug gang leader.
