J.J. Abrams and The Force Awakens cast on friendships, mo-cap, and following in Han's footsteps
“Chewie, we’re home.”
It was like a homecoming of sorts at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California this past weekend as director J.J. Abrams and his Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast members took to the stage to rapturous applause from Star Wars fans young and old.
The annual expo of all things Disney-related – including Disney family members Lucasfilm and Marvel – held their live-action movie presentation on Saturday afternoon, showcasing the upcoming films including Captain America: Civil War, The Jungle Book, and newly-announced titles like Pete’s Dragon. But it was The Force Awakens that stole the show, closing out the presentation.
Abrams and new cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and Lupita Nyong’o were on hand to talk to us about following in the footsteps of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, the enduring legacy of the Star Wars universe, mo-cap magic, and how off-screen friendship makes for on-screen fun for Boyega and Ridley.
With nearly four months to go (okay, 121 days…but we’re not the only ones who are counting down the days, right?) until Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theatres on December 18, get the latest on the movie – or at least hear what the cast is allowed to reveal – in our interview now:
