Lenny Kravitz to use his heavy-lidded gaze to play Marvin Gaye
To give you an idea of how steeped in cool this casting choice is, Questlove, of The Roots, tweeted the news, adding in a link to the Huffington Post, who has themselves reposted a story from the Evening Standard that revealed Lenny Kravitz will be getting it on as late soul singer Marvin Gaye for director Julien Temple, father of actress Juno.
Kravitz, a man who looks good enough in leather pants that Prince is probably jealous, has dabbled in acting, most recently getting all glam to play Cinna in The Hunger Games after making his debut in a small role in 2009's Precious: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire but taking on the role of the famous Motown singer would mark a huge career move for the handsome 48-year-old.
Temple, a director known for his films on the Sex Pistols and the lesser-celebrated 1988 comedy Earth Girls Are Easy, has the music biz cred to pull off a look at Gaye's descent into alcoholism and issues with tax evasion before being shot to death by his father. However, his widow, Janis Gaye, has come out as saying she is "very skeptical" about the movie but we're quite confident that if anyone can charm her into thinking the movie will work, it's Kravitz.
The multiple Grammy award winner released his latest album, Black and White America, his ninth, in 2011 and will next reunite with his Precious director for ensemble drama The Butler.
