Oprah's eyebrows, opulent visuals, and more reasons to see A Wrinkle in Time

The long-awaited film adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's classic young adult novel A Wrinkle in Time has finally arrived! Whether you're a fan of the book or not, all the buzz around this movie has probably made you at least a little curious to see what all the fuss is about.

Directed by Ava DuVernay, the film tells the story of Meg Murry (Storm Reid), who along her little brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) and her classmate Calvin (Levi Miller) sets off on a dangerous journey throughout the galaxy to find and rescue her father, Alex Murry (Chris Pine), who disappeared after discovering a way to travel across space using a concept known as a tesseract. The children are guided in their quest by three mysterious astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), and Mrs. Which (the one and only Oprah).

This family-friendly feature has everything - a star-studded cast, stunning visuals, and of course a heartfelt message. Here are just some of the reasons why you should make time to take the family to see A Wrinkle in Time:

Relatable kids

The casting in this movie is spot-on. Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace all hew pretty closely to how we'd pictured them from the book; they're precocious and cute, sure, but each also has their faults. This makes them particularly relatable for parents and kids - as much fun as it is to watch perfect, adorable geniuses onscreen, it adds a layer of realism when the child heroes are also stubborn and sometimes crabby, just like kids in real life!

Visual effects

As you'd expect from a movie in which the protagonists travel through time and space and visit different planets, the visuals in A Wrinkle in Time are amazing to watch. Faced with a real challenge in translating concepts like tessering from page to screen, the filmmakers have delivered a visual feast that deserves to be enjoyed on the biggest screen possible!

Stunning costumes, hair, and makeup

If you've seen the trailer, you know what we're talking about here - Kaling, Winfrey, and Witherspoon's incredibly intricate and colourful costumes and hair and makeup, which change throughout the movie. They're all stunning to look at and definitely worth seeing on a big screen; plus, we can't wait until the homemade makeup tutorial versions start to pop up online! Crystalline eyebrows and double-fishtail braids should be the hot look this summer!

The feels

It's a Disney movie and there are kids in (mild) peril, so naturally this will tug at the heartstrings. There is the usual heartwarming stuff about courage and believing in yourself; but more than that, there's also a truly inspiring message about loving yourself and others in spite of your faults. If you're willing to lay aside your cynicism this movie has a very affecting emotional impact that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.
