QUIZ: Watch the movie, read the book

What do The Notebook, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Road, Divergent, and The Shawshank Redemption have in common? They’re all adapted from books. From epic novels to short stories, some of Hollywood’s most popular movies have been based on books.

Romance king Nicholas Sparks has provided seemingly-endless source material to be turned big screen romances.  His latest movie which undoubtedly features at least one rain-soaked kiss is hitting theatres this week.

The Longest Ride offers up two parallel stories of romance and relationships as the lives of a young couple (Scott Eastwood, Britt Robertson) intertwine with a much older man (Alan Alda) as he reflects on his long lost love in flashbacks featuring a younger version of himself (Jack Huston).

Liberties are taken, stories are truncated, characters and settings are changed, but one thing remains true in that the original source material came from the written page. Some of the most-anticipated films landing in theatres in 2015 are based on books including Paper Towns, In the Heart of the Sea, Child 44, The Martian, Victor Frankenstein, and perhaps the most eagerly awaited film of all, the final chapter of Katniss’ adventure in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
