In what turned out to be another good week for movies, we got Golden Globe nominations (which you can read more about here), a cool new poster, and a whole bunch of new trailers.
Ocean’s 8 is a thing that is happening, rebooting the now-classic Ocean’s Eleven series with an all-female cast. The first poster for the film dropped this week, and it shows all the badass women who get together to pull off an impressive heist. Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, and Awkwafina as the titular 8. It hits theatres June 8th.
There’s also a new spot for Black Panther (which will undoubtedly become our new favourite Marvel movie) and it looks just as slick as all the other cool promo material. Come February 16th, you’ll know where to find us!
Prolific director Clint Eastwood has made yet another movie, but this one is a little different from anything he’s ever done. The 15:17 to Paris tells the true story of a train hijacking and the heroes who averted disaster – and it stars the actual men who stopped the hijackers in real life. This is definitely one we’re keeping our eye on, and it also stars Judy Greer and Jenna Fischer. See it February 9th.
Speaking of highly-anticipated 2018 movies, a second trailer for Alex Garland’s Annihilation just dropped, and it looks WILD. Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Gina Rodriguez star as scientists who explore a strange area of land where the natural laws as we know them do not apply. It hits Cineplex theatres February 23rd.
In an ultimate Marvel-verse to the live-action one where Tom Holland plays Spider-Man, there apparently exists an animated world where there are multiple Spider-Men. Such is the premise of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The plot is kept under wraps, but the first trailer features a very cool look at the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man, voiced by Shameik Moore. Mahershala Ali and Liev Shreiber also provide their voice talent to the film, which is out December 14th, 2018.
Ready Player One, Steven Spielberg’s homage to all things eighties, got another trailer this week as well, and it looks just as cool as the first one. Based on the popular novel, Ready Player One finds a young man desperately attempting to find an Easter Egg that would let him gain control of the Oasis, a virtual world where the majority of the population live out their lives. Check out the trailer, and catch it in theatres March 30th.
