Shrek, Space Jam, and more in our March Family Favourites!

March is not our favourite month. Spring is around the corner, but it's taking its sweet time to arrive, and meanwhile the weather is typically a slushy, mucky mess. All the cabin fever that's built up over the long winter is coming to a head and our families are often bouncing off the walls looking for something to do that gets us out of the house.

If family-friendly movies are your thing, then you can't do better than Family Favourites! Every Saturday select Cineplex theatres offer a kid-approved movie at 11am for just 2.99 per ticket. It's a great opportunity for a family outing, and also to connect with your kids by enjoying a classic movie from your childhood, or a recently-released critical fave, back on the big screen!

March 3: Trolls

In this colour-saturated animated adventure, Trolls are happy-go-lucky creatures who have joy in their hearts and a song on their lips. But when their village is invaded and the Trolls captured by grumpy Bergens, who believe their only chance at happiness is to (shudder) eat the Trolls, it's up to Poppy (Anna Kendrick) to save them. She enlists the help of the crabbiest Troll, Branch (Justin Timberlake), and together, this mismatched duo embark on a rescue mission full of adventure and mishaps while trying to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done. Chock-full of rich colour, clever gags, and catchy tunes including the Oscar-nominated "Can't Stop the Feeling," this movie will leave the whole family with a smile on their faces!

March 10: Fantastic Mr. Fox

It turns out Wes Anderson's quirky sensibilities were the perfect fit when adapting Roald Dahl's classic kids' book Fantastic Mr. Fox. With a voice cast that includes George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and more, the film follows a fox family led by Mr. Fox, who often steals poultry and produce from three farmers. The thievery leads into something of a war between the farmers and Mr. Fox's family. A colourful, clever, and imaginative stop-motion animated feature, Fantastic Mr. Fox is fun for the whole family, and a great way for film lovers to introduce their kids to a beloved auteur.

March 17: Shrek

Winner of the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Shrek sparked a motion picture phenomenon and captured the world's imagination with the Greatest Fairy Tale Never Told! When evil Lord Farquad (John Lithgow) banishes every fairy-tale being to Shrek's (Mike Myers) beloved swamp, the only way he can regain his privacy is to complete a quest. Relive every moment of Shrek's daring journey to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) with the help of his loveable loudmouthed Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and win back the deed to his swamp and the freedom of all the fairy-tale creatures. March 24: Space Jam

Space Jam was a cult classic that still resonates today, so much so that there will be a remake. Basketball superstar Michael Jordan and cartoon favorite Bugs Bunny team up with other basketball greats and Looney Tunes characters in this combination animated/live-action feature in which Jordan must help the Looney Tunes gang win a basketball game against a group of outer space creatures whose plan, if they win, is to kidnap the Looney Tunes and take them to a failing intergalactic amusement park as the latest attraction. It's an epic battle that also features Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky the Pig, Bill Murray and Wayne Knight.

March 31: Hop

Just in time for the Easter weekend, what better movie to celebrate the holiday than Hop! Blending animation with live action, Hop tells the comic tale of Fred (James Marsden), an out-of-work slacker who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny (voiced by Russell Brand) and must take him in as he recovers. There's just one other little problem: the Bunny wants to be a rock-and-roll drummer, not give out easter eggs! As Fred struggles with the world’s worst houseguest, both will learn what it takes to finally grow up, yet still follow your dreams.
