The Disaster Artist, Downsizing, and Star Wars Episode IX news top our movie news roundup!

In today’s news roundup, we’ve got some Star Wars news and some cool new trailers for some of the hottest movies at TIFF!

Star Wars Episode IX recently went through a tumultuous period, with a director shakeup that left the project without anyone at the helm for some time. But fear not, franchise vet J.J. Abrams has been confirmed as the director for the as-yet-untitled film. It also got a release date: December 20th, 2019.

In a galaxy much closer, there’s a new full-length trailer for Alexander Payne’s new sci-fi/drama/comedy Downsizing, which has a good chance of being an awards contender. It stars Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz and Jason Sudeikis as everyday people who decide to physically shrink themselves and live a “downsized” life, thus creating a smaller carbon footprint and stretching their resources. It looks like quite the unique premise, and we can’t wait to see how it plays out. Catch Downsizing in theatres December 22nd.

There’s also a new trailer for The Disaster Artist, which frankly looks hysterical. It tells the story of how Tommy Wiseau’s cult classic The Room (miraculously) got made, and it stars The Brothers Franco (James and Dave, obvi), Seth Rogen, and Alison Brie. Check out the trailer below and catch The Disaster Artist in Cineplex theatres December 8th.
