The Doctor heads to Cineplex theatres for the Doctor Who Christmas Special

After two years away from “Who,” time-travelling heartbreaker River Song (Alex Kingston) will return as The Doctor’s wife in this Christmas’ "Doctor Who" special.

River last appeared in Series 7, where she met Impossible Girl Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) and became separated from her parents, The Ponds (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill). Some people (read: me) haven’t recovered since.

The upcoming Christmas special will be River’s first meet-up with The Doctor’s newest incarnation, played by Peter Capaldi (In the Loop, “The Thick of It”), and we cannot wait to see how that pans out. River’s never been in sync with The Doctor’s time travelling, so Capaldi’s recent adventures in time and space could be old news to her or brand new information. Either way, River has scored a hat-trick with the Christmas special, appearing in “Who” episodes with three Doctors: David Tennant, Matt Smith, and now Capaldi. We couldn’t be more jealous.

The "Doctor Who" Christmas special will screen in select Cineplex theatres on December 28, and will feature an exclusive interview with Alex Kingston and a behind-the-scenes look with the cast and crew.
