The Star Trek Into Darkness teaser poster has arrived and everything's coming up Cumberbatch
Okay, Abrams, we get it. You're a tease.
You won't come out and confirm just who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in your May 2013 sequel, but you'll stick him slap-bang in the middle of the first teaser poster just to further pique our interest. Well played, sir.
This first official glimpse at Star Trek Into Darkness comes to us via the film's new Twitter account. Hugely reminiscent of the first teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises, the image shows Cumberbatch's as-yet-unnamed villain surveying a devastated London, framed by wreckage in the shape of the Starfleet insignia. Given last week's reveal of the official synopsis, the symbolism is pretty clear.
Missing? Any sign of the rest of the crew of the Enterprise. No Pine, no Quinto, no Saldana. But as io9 observed, whatever the poster lacks in originality or cast inclusion is more than made up for by the presence of the Cumberbatch. We wholeheartedly agree...and so, it would appear, does Tumblr and the actor's legions of fans.
