Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell on the emotional experience of filming Beautiful Boy
This heart-wrenching true story follows a real-life father and son whose lives are derailed by a methamphetamine addiction.
Playing a troubled drug addict took an emotional toll on Timothée Chalamet, who could be up for his second Oscar nomination in his short career for this harrowing performance. Based on a pair of memoirs by David and Nic Sheff, the film follows family man David (Steve Carell) as he struggles to understand what went wrong in his son Nic’s (Chalamet) upbringing when Nic starts using drugs and alcohol at a young age. Carell, who has expertly navigated his dramatic career in recent years, could also receive awards consideration for his empathetic work.
We spoke to Chalamet and Carell about making this impactful film and the emotional weight of the experience. Watch the interview and see Beautiful Boy in theatres on October 19th.
